 ”Our Colourful Dreams”

The Art of Working Children

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK)  in collaboration with Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts Organised a four day children’s art exhibition between the 4th-7th of July  titled “Our Colorful Dreams”.

This is the fourth occasion the Bengal Gallery have provided their space for art exhibition for the working children.

Human Rights Advocate Z.I khan Panna, also Secretary General of the Executive Committee for ASK and Subir Chowdhury the Director of the Bengal Gallery of fine arts attended the event.  As well as the artists, the event was attended by a significant number of working children comprising of  ”street” children,  child domestic workers, children engaged with begging, garbage collectors.

Renowned artist Sayda Kamal inaugurated the exhibition.  Children celebrated the inauguration with songs, dance and humour.  Around one hundred paintings done by the working children in a workshop were exhibited in the exhibition.

ASK founder member and a keen intiator of the child rights unit,  Khursheed Erfan Ahmed and chairperson of ASK, Dr.Hameeda hossain also visited the exhibition.

The children painted their dreams, deprivation, sufferings and thoughts about the society through colorful canvas. They used different innovative techniques in their paintings.

Several issues have been used in their paintings these are: green environment, rural culture, ritual of agriculture, language movement, liberation war, monsoon, family, fair, village, flower and violation of their rights. Many new talents come to light through this Endeavour.
