Right to Shelter (Slum Eviction)

Subject Matter: A Notice had been served by a government authority amongst 1,00,000 slum dwellers of Korail Bosti asking them to vacate the slum. The notice added a threat to evict forcibly if the slum dwellers fail to comply with the notice. Hence a threat of violation of Right to Shelter as well as many other constitutional rights occasioned.
Court’s Response: High Court issued a rule nisi calling upon the respondents to show cause as to why the eviction notice should not be declared without lawful authority and granted stay of the operation of the eviction process till disposal of the case.
Current Status: The case is pending for final hearing.
