Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) is deeply concerned over the incident of terrorist attack on M. Abdullah, the special correspondent of daily Amar Desh.

On 17 December, in Daily Amar Desh, a report has been published titling ‘Allegation of 5 million dollar bribery against Toufik-E-Elahi and Joy’. The report mentioned that Petrobangla employees complained that the alleged persons received 370 million dollar bribe from Chevron, a company of USA to have the permission from the Government to establish a compressor station. The report also mentioned that an investigation is going on under the ministry.

From the newspaper, we are being informed that after publishing this report, the ruling party and anonymous persons are continuously threatening the editor and the reporter of this newspaper. Finally, the reporter has been attacked by unknown terrorists on Saturday.

We believe that, a fair investigation of charge of corruption should take place without any delay to reveal the truth so that the mass people can know the real facts. If the allegation is true, proper steps should be taken and if the allegation is wrong then the door is open to take legal action against the reporter. But without executing it, if the Government encourages this oppression, the democratic obligation of the government will be in a question and the people will believe this allegation of corruption as true.

We urge the Government to initiate proper investigation without any delay to reveal the truth to the people of the country.
