ASK demands impartial investigation and compensation for the victims

Ain o Salish kendra (ASK) expressed grave concern over the violence that took place on 19 and 20 February 2010 at Baghaichhari of Rangamati district.

We came to know from various sources that, the violence between the indigenous people and the Bangalee settlers erupted over the dispute of land. At one stage of the violence, the army personnel opened fire at the instance of clash between the two parties. The violence caused the death and wounded several persons, burning of houses, shops and the Buddhist temple.

ASK expresses deep condolence at the death and strongly condemns this violent incident. We demand the Govenment to initiate an impartial investigation and ensure adequate compensation for the victims.
