ASK expresses concern over the labour agitation at Tejgaon

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses deep concern over the report of clash between the police and the agitated garment workers at Tejgaon on Tuesday. The workers started the agitation protesting the dismissal of their co workers.

According to the online version of several news sources, the clash started when workers of nehbouring garment factories started agitation and blocked the road in protest of the dismissal of 27 workers of Samahar garments without any notice. The clash left 30 persons wounded.

We would like to mention that dismissing workers without any notice is unlawful as well as inhuman. We urge the garment owners to follow the provisions of Labour Act 2006 in all cases and demand the Government to identify the reasons of continuous labour unrest and to take effective measures to address those.
