ASK expresses deep condolence at the death of 44 persons in an accident at Soidali Village in Mirsarai Upazila of Chittagong while returning from a football match on July 11, 2011. The accident had a severe heartrending effect on all as 41 out of the 44 dead, were school going children. ASK is gravely concerned about the accident especially, as it has been reported that the truck was being driven by a helper who was talking on his mobile phone while driving the vehicle. In both the cases the transport (truck) authority were in gross violation of rules and extremely negligent. We strongly condemn this incident and demand immediate identification of the truck owner as well as arrest and trial of the truck driver. We convey our deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and draw attention of all the concerned authorities including the traffic authority to the matter so that such accident never recurs.
