On January 3, 2012 four persons including a female journalist have been attacked and assaulted by Kamal Ahmed Majumder M.P. and his assistants in front of Monipur High School and College at Mirpur in the capital. ASK expresses grave concern and strongly condemns the incident.

Different media sources reported that Aparna Singha, a journalist from RTV, has been attacked by the President of the school committee and local M.P. Kamal Ahmed Majumder and his assistants, as she went there to collect news for a report regarding the alleged irregularities in admission process of the Monipur High School and College. From the statement of the said journalist Aparna Singha, it is also revealed that the local M.P. shouted at his assistants to shoot down the journalists.

We believe that such attack will seriously injure the freedom of press and freedom of expression. We hope that the administration, after proper investigation, will take necessary steps against the persons responsible for the incident and thus take an effective role in defending freedom of press and human rights.
