The Editor, Motiur Rahman and Senior Reporter, Iftekhar Mahmud of the Daily Prothom Alo have received death threat over mobile phone. Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses its grave concern in this matter.

According to different media sources, the local influential and crime syndicate had been threatening Iftekhar Mahmood since the publication of his report regarding the political situation and hooliganism in Khulna. Even they have filed a case against the Daily Prothom Alo with the intention of harassment.

We believe that in order to strengthen democracy, freedom of press in its fullest form is essential. Such intimidation for publication of news will infringe the freedom of expression. We hope that the concerned authority will take necessary steps promptly after proper investigation into the matter.
