Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has expressed deep concern at the comment of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) chief that complete ceasefire is not possible at the Bangladesh border.

According to different media reports, The BSF Inspector General in an interview with BBC on February 7, 2012 stated “It is not possible to stop firings completely”.

We think that when two friendly countries are trying to maintain ceasefire at the borders, such comment from the BSF Director General would only jeopardize the process. We hope, all would refrain from comments that might pose a hindrance in the border peace process. The authorities should also take necessary actions so that border killings do not take place.
