Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses grave concern and protests the attack of police on a journalists’ meeting arranged in protest of murder of the journalist couple and torture on the local journalists, at Sitakunda of Chittagong leaving 10 journalists injured.

According to the news published in different newspapers, police suddenly started to charge baton in a peaceful assembly of the journalists at College Road in Sitakunda Bazar and snatched away and devastated the banner, festoon and microphones. It is also reported that the officer in charge of the Sitakunda Model Police Station uttered slang to the journalists and threatened them. We are concerned that this kind of attack and threat will seriously affect the freedom of speech and peaceful assembly.

We expect that the administration will take necessary steps against the persons responsible upon proper investigation and play an effective role to protect the freedom of speech and peaceful assembly of all.
