Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses grave concern on the incident of attack, looting and arson on the minority families of Fatehpur village in Satkhira.

According to different media reports, some bigots started agitation on the issue of staging a drama in a local secondary school on the occasion of Independence Day, and then attacked, looted and set fire in the houses of minority communities. It is also reported that the local administration failed to take appropriate measures to control the situation.

We are concerned that such attack by bigots will obstruct the freedom of expression as well as impair the admirable course of cultural diversity. We expect that the government will take necessary steps against every person involved in the incident upon proper investigation, and at the same time should remain cautious to prevent recurrence of such incident.
