Press Release : 20 November 2013 Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses grave concern over the recent clash between workers and police at Ashulia and Gazipur area.
According to different media reports, two garment workers died on 18 November 2013 during the clash with Police at Kashimpur, Gazipur. It was also reported that protesting deaths of the two workers as well as demanding increase of the minimum wage, the workers started demonstration on 19 November 2013 at different places of Ashulia and Gazipur. The workers claimed that the two workers had died due in a firing by the members of law enforcing agencies.
Ain o Salish Kendra considers that the workers are entitled to a fair wage and they have a right to hold peaceful protests demanding fair wages. We also consider that excessive use of force by law enforcing agencies will not bring any effective solution rather may lead to a deterioration of the present situation and loss of more lives of workers.
Ain o Salish Kendra strongly urges all concerned parties to resolve the existing crisis through meidation and dialogue.
