11 year old Meghna from Katashur slum at Nama Bazar,eagerly waits for the day out every year. At a young age, she lost both her parents and has been working with her grandmother, breaking bricks for construction projects. She started to study at ‘Jokhon Tokhon Shiksha Kendra’ (Education at any time) programme whilst working full time.
On the 19th of February 2014, Meghna was one of the 146 working children from ASK’s Child Rights Programme invited to sing, dance and enjoy the festivities and entertainment while receiving respite from their daily routines.
As a part of the practical education, this annual excursion to ‘Shishu Park’, a national children’s amusement park at Shahbag, was arranged by the Child Rights Unit of ASK.
Under its Child Rights Program, ASK provides basic education and life skills training through its 14 full-time and 35 part-time drop-in centres in Dhaka, where working children can come in at any time to receive basic literacy and life-skills and sessions for art, music, and games.

Shaon Mahmud, the daughter of martyr Altaf Mahmud joined this excursion and shared the contribution of Altaf Mahmud in the language movement with the children.
