LATEST INFORMATION : Abduction Attempt of Md. Nur Khan, ASK Director (Investigation)
18th May 2014. A letter was sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Inspector General of Police, and the Chairman of National Human Rights Commission requesting assurance of personal and collective security of Human Rights Defenders by conducting proper investigation and taking necessary legal actions against those involved in the abduction attempt of Md. Nur Khan, Director (Investigation) of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).
On 15 May 2014, an attempt was made to abduct Md. Nur Khan in front of ASK office. The incident took place at that day around 5pm when he left ASK office for home. On the way of going home by a rickshaw with his colleague, a few yards away from the office, a white colored micro bus with transparent window obstructed the way. Suspecting something unusual, Nur Khan quickly got down from the rickshaw and ran back into his office. At that time there were about seven men inside the micro bus and subsequently the micro bus quickly drove towards Dhanmondi. On this regard Nur Khan filed a General Diary at Mohammadpur Police station on the same day. It is mentionable that, he was threatened several times before this incident took place. He understood at different times that he was being followed and he filed earlier a General Dairy on 20 April 2014 at Mohammadpur Police station.
We hope that, such incident will not take place again and we, the human rights defenders will be able to do our work in a safe and enabling environment.
