ASK Urge Authorities to Take Tougher Action Against Border Killings

Torture by Border Security Force ( BSF ) : Death of Bangladeshi Citizen

ASK expresses grave concern and condemnation

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses its grave concern and condemnation over the incident of killing of one Bangladeshi citizen by the BSF, the Border Security Force of India.

In accordance with different media reports, one Bangladeshi cattle trader named Shariful Islam was detained and subsequently beaten to death by BSF at Putkhali Border of Benapole, Jessore on 28 June 2014. According to ASK Documentation, based on different sources and media reports, 8 people have allegedly killed, 4 people died of physical torture and 25 people were injured by BSF during January to June 2014 at Bangladesh-India Border. It is to be noted that there were some reported incidents such as sexual harassment of girl, torture and killing of citizens at Border areas on this current year.

It should be mentioned here that the BSF has been continuously engaged in such killings violating the international laws. Although the Indian authority has repeatedly assured that BSF will be sensible and cautious on border issues, but torture and killing of Bangladeshi citizens are taking an increasing toll.

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) thinks that an immediate bi-partite initiative is significant to stop recurrence of such killings and torture in border areas. We urge the concerned authorities to strengthen diplomatic pressures on the Indian authorities and also to take effective measures in this regard.
