ASK’S grave concern and condemnation: Killing of blogger and writer Wasekur Rahman

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses its grave concern and condemns the killing of blogger Wasekur Rahman few days after the brutal assassination of blogger and writer Avijit Roy.

According to published online news, a blogger named Wasekur Rahman was hacked to death on Monday morning (30 March 2015). Two of the perpetrators were arrested from the killing spot but the third one fled away. It is significant to note that the police presented the arrestees in front of the media right after the murder took place where they confessed their involvement in the killing.

That the killing took place only a month after the murder of prominent blogger Avijit Roy is a matter of grave concern. We hope that the police investigation in this case would be thorough and impartial without jumping into a hurried conclusion.

We are of the opinion that the Government should take preventive protection measures for the bloggers and progressive personalities around the country.   Killing of Wasekur within a few days after Avijit Roy evidently shows that the government did not take adequate measures to provide security to those at risk.

We urge the government to take immediate legal measures against the people involved in the killing based on impartial and independent investigation without delay, and also demand that the Government ensures the security for the people at risk.
