Ain o Salish Kendra is expressing deep condolence at the death of Sculptor Novera Ahmed.

She breathed her last on 6 May 2015 around 9 am (Bangladesh Time) at her home in Chantemesle near Paris and was of 86 years old at the time of death. According to media reports, she was suffering from various aging-associated diseases.  Novera Ahmed was one of the collaborators of Central Shaheed Minar’s original design and was awarded the Ekushey Padak (একুশে পদক) in 1997, one of the highest civilian awards in Bangladesh. She was considered one of the first modern sculptors of Bangladesh. Novera’s first solo exhibition was held in Central Public Library at Dhaka University and a retrospective exhibition of her body of work took place January 2014 in Paris.

Her death is surely very painful for us.  We express our respect in her memories, praying for eternal peace of her soul and express profound sympathy for the bereaved family.
