ASK’s concern: Bomb attack on Dinajpur Kantaji temple premises

Ain o Salish Kendra expresses grave concern over the bomb attack at a marquee of ‘Rasmela’ beside the historic Kantaji temple in Dinajpur that left a number of people injured.

It has been reported by the media that the bomb attack was made around 1 am on 5 December 2015 when spectators at the marquee were watching Jatra (folk theatre) arranged outside the temple premises on occasion of Raash Mela. The injured were taken to the hospital.

It is not yet clear who carried out the attack and why, but the incident is sure to intensify people’s sense of insecurity in the wake of several militant attacks made in different parts of the country recently.

There have been attacks at Jatra shows in the past and those experiences tell us that such an incident will pose a serious threat to our traditional Bengali culture.

Suspects have been arrested in connection with the bomb attack. We hope that the government will launch a proper investigation to identify the attackers and will subject them to legal actions in order to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
