ASK’s concern over attacks on minorities

Ain o Salish Kendra is expressing grave concern over the recent attacks on the religious minorities and the Baul community in different parts of the country.

Earlier on 10 December 2015, three Christian siblings were injured in an attack at their Arjatpara house under Tejgaon Police Station in the capital. On the same day, two people sustained bullet injuries in an attack on a temple of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) at Joynanda Dahachi village in Dinajpur’s Kaharole upazila. On 11 December 2015, the organiser of a Baul festival in Chuadanga’s Alokdia union was also hacked to death.

We have noticed with concern that there is an attempt to describe these incidents as isolated events but we think these deserve serious attention in the backdrop of the recent threats and attacks on foreign nationals and members of the minority communities, including the Christians.

Suspects have been detained in connection with the incidents from the spots or after the crimes were committed.

We hope the law enforcement agencies will not try to downplay the gravity of these incidents by terming those isolated and carry out proper as well as impartial investigations to find the masterminds and take legal actions against them. This is crucial for the country’s security.
