Ain o Salish Kendra expresses serious concern over the attack on several establishments by madrasah students in Brahmanbaria in the wake of violence that claimed the life of a fellow student.
According to media reports, a clash broke out between madrasah students and local traders after the students attacked a shop over altercations with a fellow student on Monday (11 January 2016). A student of Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrasah was injured during the clash and later succumbed on Tuesday (12 January 2016) morning.
Angered by the death and as part of reaction, madrasah students went on a rampage in the town on 12 January 2016 and they attacked, vandalised and set fire to various social and political establishments, including Ustad Alauddin Khan Sangitangan (music academy).
We deeply mourn the death of the madrasah student, and our condolences go to the members of the bereaved family. Along with these, we condemn over the violent incidents occurred in Brahmanbaria and also the damage done to Ustad Alauddin Khan Sangitangan, a traditional music academy.
We call upon all sides involved in the violence to exercise patience at the highest level and the law enforcement agencies to play an impartial role for stopping violence. We also demand that the authorities of Ustad Alauddin Khan Sangitangan be compensated duly.
We urge the law enforcement agencies to take precautionary measures in order to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in future.
