Ain o Salish Kendra expresses serious concern over the arrest and remand of senior Journalist Shafik Rehman.

It has been reported by the media that Shafik was arrested as an accused in a case filed with Paltan Police Station on 5 August 2015 and was also put on remand.

We think that the way he was arrested has created confusion among the public. It would have been better if he was arrested after the issuance of an arrest warrant by court, provided there was specific evidence against him.

We hope, the action of the law enforcement agencies will not arouse the suspicion among the people that the government is resorting to repressive measures with a view to silencing dissenting voices.
