Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses grave concern over recent incidences of 5 being killed and several getting injured by mob beatings in different districts under suspicion of being child kidnappers. ASK strongly demands the administration to ensure quick investigation and take legal measures against the incidents. Furthermore, ASK demands the authority to take quick and necessary measures to stop this trend.
According to media reports, incidences of mob beatings have taken place recently in different parts of the country based on rumours that “human heads are needed for Padma Bridge construction”. ASK is deeply concerned about this trend. ASK thinks that the sudden rise in these incidences are creating fear in people’s mind, hampering citizens’ security and above all creating unrest in the country. ASK firmly states that, every individual has the right to be treated as innocent before proven guilty in trail. Moreover, the constitution explicitly recognises every individual’s right to have the protection of the law. Meanwhile, a press release from the Police Head Quarters has urged everybody to stay alert regarding the rumours. The press release further mentioned that mob attacks are declared as a criminal offence and persons involved in such crimes will be subjected to the law based on investigation. ASK expects that the police will remain watchful and ensure quick investigation and trial of the incidents that took place. ASK will carry out different activities for raising awareness of the people.
