In Khulna, allegedly a doctor named Dr. Rokibuddin (60) died as a result of being attacked by the relatives of a patient. He died while he was undergoing treatment in Shaheed Sheikh Abu Naser Specialised Hospital at 06:30 pm on 16 June 2020. Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses deep concern over this incident and demands to ensure legal punishment against those involved through neutral investigation.
According to different media reports, the deceased doctor was the owner of Raisa Clinic atGollamari Mor, Khulna. On 14 June, a pregnant woman named Sheuli Begum delivered a baby by cesarean section. However, as her bleeding did not stop, she was transferred to KhulnaMedical College Hospital on 15 June. After some time of admission, they advised sending the patient to Dhaka. She died in the ambulance en route to Dhaka. After that, under the allegation of the pregnant woman dying due to the aforementioned doctor’s wrong treatment, the patient’s relatives beat that doctor severely in front of the clinic and left the scene. After that, the doctor gave treatment in different hospitals, and at last, he died in ICU in the evening at around six-thirty on 16 June. According to the doctors, he died due to severe bleeding in his head caused by the injury.
ASK gravely condemns such an attack on a doctor by the patient’s relatives. During this time whenthe doctors are fighting heart and soul to tackle Coronavirus and even getting affected and dying, the happening of such an incident is extremely unfortunate and unexpected. ASK believes thatensuring the legal punishment of those involved through a neutral investigation of this incident is verynecessary. It is essential for there to be scope for fair investigation on any allegation of medicalnegligence by the doctor to ensure that a repetition of such an unexpected incident does not occur.Besides, patients and their relatives need to have faith on the doctors. If there is any claimregarding the treatments, initiatives should be taken to solve the issue following all the rules andregulations.
